Global Unity Project for Yom Kippur 5785

While the war has taken over our consciousness, the scars felt in Israel from the confrontations that took place last year Yom Kippur – shouting and fist fights between Jew and Jew, some wrapped in talisses and holding siddurs, others with placards, whistles and megaphones – are still all too fresh. While the war has put a “band-aid” on the divisions between secular and religious, the rifts have recently begun to resurface.

As an organization that is widely respected by both sides of the divide, we at Tzohar have undertaken to promote healing. We will mount a global campaign aimed to help unify our people, including the following simple but impactful activities:

1. A call for all in Israel to join one of Tzohar’s ~400 Tzohar Yom Kippur services.
2. A special Yom Kippur prayer.
3. Global connection.
The initiative has been joined by numerous partners: the Koren publishing house, the Rabbi Sacks Heritage Fund, Torah Mitzion, Young Israel, World Mizrahi and more.

Recommendations for the 2024 Tishrei Tefillot In Light of the “Swords of Iron” War

How can communities celebrate the High Holidays – especially Simchat Torah – this year? This is the question that is being asked across Israel and across the world – by rabbis, communities and the public at large.

To answer this fraught-with-emotion question, Tzohar’s rabbis met in a special session, and have distilled their thoughts and suggestions into a uniquely sensitive and straightforward halachic guide. With a deep understanding of the needs of the hour, it offers special and adapted prayers, instructions for modifications of holiday customs, and suggestions for steps that can be taken to strengthen unity across Israeli society and the Jewish world.

The booklet is intended for all Jews looking to instill relevance and connection into their prayers while remaining faithful to the past, whether as individuals seeking meaning, families facing hardship, or entire communities coming to terms with our unprecedented reality. It provides a spiritual and practical solution for anyone trying to balance the joy of the holiday with the complex national reality and offers suggestions for ways to deal with the unique challenges of the year.

Tisha B’Av 2024

The 2024 Tzohar Kinot Companion – From Shemini Atzeret to Tisha B’Av

We are living in a period of unspeakable loss and pain. The blood of our nation’s heroes who have fallen on the battlefield in defense of our land, has become mixed together with that of the victims of the massacres of that horrific October day.
Images of Jews slaughtered simply because they were Jews, images that we always associated with Kishinev and Babi Yar, have been thrust back into our modern Jewish minds.

This companion to the kinot, including a new kinah – Kinat Be’eri – seeks to ensure that we are able to feel and remember the power and pain of the times we are living in, right alongside the tragedies that are inextricable aspects of our national history.

Shavuot 2024

As we approach Shavuot, the day traditionally associated with Torah study, we know that this year in particular the holiday will be an opportunity for personal and communal reflection around themes of national pain, loss, as well as hope for a better tomorrow, that have become so relevant in the wake of October 7th and the ongoing war.

In response, Tzohar has compiled ten thought-provoking essays from Israeli personalities directly affected by the ongoing events, that have been translated into English.
